PMA Long Course runs twice a year (158 was advertised in spring 2026; 159 is this autumn course). Missing 159 does not end your chances — but it costs you roughly six months, so if you are eligible now, register today rather than “preparing first.”
The age trap: your age is NOT counted from today
For PMA 159, age eligibility is calculated as of 1 May 2027, and the band depends on your qualification:

Worked example of the classic mistake: a candidate who is 22 today but turns 23 before 1 May 2027 is over-age for the Intermediate band — even though registration is still open and the form may initially accept his data. Age is verified against documents at the AS&RC; candidates are turned away at the gate. Calculate your age on 1 May 2027, not on the day you register. Do not carry over the cutoff date from PMA 158 or any older course — each course notifies its own.
Other PMA 159 basics: minimum height 5′-4″ (162.5 cm) with weight per the prescribed BMI standard; dual nationals may apply but must surrender their other nationality on final selection; A-Level candidates need the IBCC equivalence certificate where their grades fall outside the stated criteria.
What actually happens after you register (officer route)
- Register online at joinpakarmy.gov.pk → select PMA Long Course 159 → choose your AS&RC. No internet? You can register in person at the centre with original documents.
- Your computerised roll number slip is generated in about 5–7 working days. It carries your test date and time — that date is not changed on request, so plan around it, not the other way.
- Preliminary tests at the AS&RC: written/intelligence testing (verbal, non-verbal, academic), a brief essay component, medical screening and the physical test (reported for this course as a 1 km run in 8 minutes, push-ups and sit-ups to qualify — confirm the current standard on the portal, as physical standards vary by course).
- ISSB: candidates who clear preliminaries receive the ISSB form; the Inter Services Selection Board runs a multi-day psychological, group and physical assessment. Repeaters must bring their previous ISSB “Not Recommended” letter.
- Final medical at a CMH, then the GHQ final merit list. Only then does the PMA Kakul joining instruction arrive.
Documents for the AS&RC: original mark sheets (Matric/FA/FSc), CNIC — or Form-B plus father’s CNIC if under 18 (note: the old Form-B is not accepted), one set of attested photocopies, 3 attested passport-size photographs.
The other door: Sipahi and JCO (Naib Khateeb) recruitment
Soldier entry is a separate recruitment from the officer course, run through AS&RCs with district-wise schedules. The latest 2026 round covered:

The round ran on a district schedule — teams covered centres in sequence (e.g., Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sui, Sukkur and Jacobabad through September 2026; Karachi 2–6 October; Dera Ismail Khan 12–17 October). Two lessons in that pattern:
- Your district’s dates are your deadline. When the team leaves your district, that round is over for you even if recruitment continues elsewhere.
- Eligibility is Pakistan, AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan-wide, but you report to the centre your district is assigned to — confirm the assignment in the advertisement before travelling.

Army recruitment scams: the Army charges no “processing agents”
- No agent, academy or “reference” can get you selected. Selection is test-, ISSB- and merit-based. Money paid to an intermediary buys nothing.
- Registration is only via joinpakarmy.gov.pk or at an AS&RC. Facebook pages collecting CNIC numbers and fees for “Army registration” are harvesting data or money.
- Beware fake “call letters.” Genuine ISSB calls and joining instructions follow the official process after you have personally appeared in tests — nobody is selected by post without appearing.
